Mount Kazbek

Mount Kazbek is a dormant volcano and one of the most beautiful mountain peaks in Georgia. The name in Georgian – Mkinvartsveri translates to “Glacier Peak” or “Freezing Cold Peak”. Mount Kazbek is considered to be the most popular and visited alpine destinations in Georgia.

Climbing of the mountain is not technically difficult. Therewith, the hotel “Bethlehem Hut” (former meteorological station) makes it much easier to climb the peak even for nonprofessional alpinists. Therefore, the interest towards it, is growing faster and faster among travelers. Climbing the peak via classical route (UIAA-2 B category) is not a significant difficulty for those following an active and healthy lifestyle.

ITINERARY:

DAY 1: PICK UP FROM TBILISI AIRPORT – TRANSFER TO KAZBEGI

Later, the group will meet mountain guides in the hotel to examine hiking equipment and discuss additional questions related to the route.

DAY 2: GERGETI PLATEAU – “BETHLEHEM HUT” SHELTER

Breakfast (07:00-08:00)

You will head to Gergeti plateau from Kazbegi via comfortable Minivan, from where starts the path to “Bethlehem hut” shelter.

Your baggage will be carried by horses. You will go along the beautiful alpine meadows before reaching the shelter.

You will have a dinner on the way. You can either overnight in the shelter or tent.

DAY 3: ACCLIMATIZATION

Breakfast (09:00-10:00)

By 11 am, in purpose of acclimatization, we will go and visit breathtaking Gergeti Holy Trinity church, which is one hours away from the shelter, at an altitude of 3868 m.

Later, guests will return to the shelter and have lunch at 3 pm. After the lunch, mountain guide will give you 30 minutes instruction.

DAY 4: CLIMBING MOUNT KAZBEK

Breakfast (01:00-02:00)

On this day, you will get up at 1 am and get prepared for the climb. After adjusting the equipment and snacking, around 3 am you will head to the peak. It takes approximately 10-12 hours to climb the peak.

DAY 5: RETURNING TO TBILISI – FAREWELL DINNER

Breakfast (09:00-10:00)

After the breakfast, we will descend to Gergeti plateau, where we meet comfortable minivan and return to Tbilisi. We will have lunch on the way.

In the evening you will have farewell dinner at restaurant.

You will overnight in the hotel in Tbilisi.

DAY 6: FREE TIME – TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT

Note: Considering safety of travelers, one guide can lead maximum three people.

In case of weather conditions deterioration, the tour can be prolonged by 1 day. In this case, travelers will have to pay for additional overnight.

The shelter does not provide shower and constant electricity.
